On my way back from London!
A good time was had by all and I have a hat with rabbit ears that is AWESOME, I tell you.
Anyway - important notes first:
1. Katie McGrath remembered me (again. ^_^) She saw me at the signing and before I could even open my mouth she was all 'Hello! I remember you!' And I tried not to jump up and down like a small child who has just been handed a cupcake with special sprinkles on it. Except that it got better because she then started asking me how I was and how I'd 'been' since the BFI screening like she freaking knew me. SERIOUSLY.
So I told her how I had an essay due tomorrow but wouldn't be getting home until about one this morning and how it was all a bit exhausting and she was like 'I'm sure you'll cope. I have faith in you!' and I was all 'Katie McGrath you have NO IDEA how much that has just made my ENTIRE month.' :P (Well, not outloud - but yeah - I giggled like an idiot and scurried away before I could look like any more of a dork).
2. Angel Coulby was equally lovely but was, as always, a bit more reserved. She was SO nice though. I took a picture of her with
shantirosa so we could have two people with Gwen!hair in the same photo and then I had to explain to Angel about the whole Gwen!hair thing (for those of you not familiar with this story,
shantirosa has hair that is freakishly - in a good way :P - similar to Gwen's - it's probably longer but that's about it. They are like hair twins, or something.) She signed my poster and then we had like a thirty second conversation about how hot it was (which it REALLY was) and how I was staunchely refusing to take my bunny ear hat off despite how hot the expo was, because the hat had been on for five hours now, god damit, and I wasn't going to be defeated at this late juncture of the day.
She giggled at me.
3. Johnny Capps was impressed by my nose-diving dragon!shirt (I have a red shirt which i stitched a cutout of the yellow pendragon crest to this morning, at about 6:30 AM, whilst in the first of MANY of today's queues). Of course, the fact that I was doing it at half past six in the morning, in a queue, without pins to keep the fabric straight, meant that it came out crooked and the dragon now look's like it's taking a nose-dive off my left boob. But Johnny Capps liked it anyway and was amused by me attempting to explain the difficulty of stitching straight under the circumstances I found myself in that morning. XP
4. I didn't, in the end, dress as an undead Merlin fangirl. It would have been fun, but the fact is that I was EXHAUSTED all day, since I'd been woken up at four (bloody clocks going back...) and I think worrying about facepaint and makeup would have been one more slightly unneccisary stressor. So I just wore my shirt. Next Expo, though,
shantirosa and me are determinded to cosplay as lolita!Arthur and lolita!Gwen, since a few people thought we were actually cosplaying modern-day versions of them (
shantirosa was wearing a peasant dress that doesn't look TOO dissimilar to Gwen's purple one - it's just shorter and blue; and that combined with her gwen!hair and me being blonde and wearing a Pendragon shirt bemused people. But I did then spend much of the rest of the day calling
shantirosa 'Gwen' and refering to her as my wife, so there we go. XP)
5. I bought a hat with rabbit ears. It's blue. And I wore it ALL DAY.
6. A girl gave Katie a bag of jelly babies during the Q&A. Katie was so PLEASED - it was adorable.
7. The space where the panel took place was WAY bigger than the one they had set up in May, and I think that caused some trouble with the acustics, because it was REALLY hard to hear what people were saying. Katie and Angel were just about audible but a lot of the people asking questions couldn't be heard at all and Johnny Capps was pretty inaudible as well.
8. The turn out WAS smaller than it was in May (sad but not surprising) however it wasn't bad enough that Katie and Angel are likely to have registered the difference. The space we were in for the panel really was HUGE but, although it was worryingly empty for the hour or so leading up to the panel, it was pretty much full by the time Angel and Katie came on so that was good. And the crowd was really excited to see them and the girls seemed really apreciative and happy to be there and had fun answering everybody's questions, so overall the atmosphere was great.
9. There were at least two Morgana cosplayers - a girl who'd gone all dark!Morgana, which was awesome, and a younger girl who was maybe fifteen in a REALLY amazing version of Morgana's purple gown which she'd made herself (we were just behind her in the autograph queue and were WELL impressed with how much detail she'd gone into with it. Plus Katie was HUGELY excited to see someone cosplaying her. She was all 'THAT'S ME!' ^_^)
10. There was a guy going round filming everyone for the Merlin DVD extras, so you MIGHT be able to see me and
shantirosa and everybody else looking like dorks in both the audience of the Q&A and the signing queue. He got a few of them to talk to the camera (including the younger Morgana-cosplaying girl), as well, so THAT'S an extra I'll be wanting to see pretty soon. XP
I will upload pictures when I get back - the train's internet connection is really too slow to be able to handle that right now.
